I wanted the original audio extracted from the disc so I can play on my Dune media player as well as higher res playback devices. PavTube is my ripping software of choice. I own ByteCopy and iMedia Converter.

I use Pavtube iMedia Converter for primary use. Basically backup to MKV to my new NAS system, so I only need one unit to display all my movies and recorded television series direct to my projector and television.

I got some Blu-ray (borrowed) to rip, but had to give the discs back as I could not rip them and run out of time to watch them before he wanted them back. That is why I love Pavtube because I can rip them and watch them in my own time, late at night when i get home from editing and I am too awake to go to bed. Watch a quick film and then I am tired enough to go straight to sleep. Being able to time shift really helps me. Also if on tour, I can take a lot of films i haven't seen to watch on the tour bus.

To convert Blu-rays I downloaded iMedia Converter for Mac after google. I always output to the Apple TV 3 1080p Dolby Digital Pass through format as I send all to my home iTunes media library. The same format plays without issue on my Mica MPlay that I carry with me when I travel coupled with a backup of my iTunes movie folder. A very easy to use tool!

  5. Best settings for converting DVD to Apple TV, Roku and KDLinks?

I actually wanted to convert DVD to Apple TV, Roku and KDLinks with best settings. So I downloaded DVDAid. After asking official support I got to know those devices support different formats. M4V for Apple TV compatible, MKV to play on my Roku and a straight folder rip (or you call it full disc copy) that I play on a KDLinks media player. Basically you can do one conversion in MP4 as it's widely supported on most deices. The .mkv is obviously better quality and I like the Roku and its interface better than Apple TV.
